Next to our look at St. Patrick's Day sales on eBay, which saw hundreds of thousands of dollars in goods shipped worldwide over two months, Nike's latest publicity win seems like something akin to magic.
Case in point: How much would you pay for the pair of sneakers you see at the right?
If your answer to that question was a quick "Thirty-seven thousand dollars!" then you're well prepared to shop eBay for a pair of Nike Air Yeezy II Red October shoes.
The shoes, part of a collaboration between Nike and Kanye West—the shoemaker's first collaboration with a non-athlete—were released in limited edition and without warning on February 9th, naturally to much media swooning.
Since "rare" goods sold on eBay immediately after release sometimes go through a cycle of very high prices followed by a rapid price decline or even collapse, we thought we'd take a look and see whether Yeezy prices held up during the first week.
Nike Air Yeezy II Red October, Week 1 Summary
The summary stats are impressive for a shoe that officially went on sale with a $245 retail price.
From February 9th through February 16th, nearly $1.4 million in Air Yeezy II Red October shoes were sold—but that massive figure came from only 519 pairs of shoes, for an average price per pair of nearly $2,700.

Charting the Yeezy Red October Trend
Of course it's hard to tell how sales and prices are trending based on lists like the ones above, so here are the day-by-day total dollar volume and average price charts, covering the time period from February 9th through February 16th:
Average selling prices plateaued on the 12th but have held more or less steady since then at just below or just around the $3,000 mark. Daily volume started at around $165,000 per day and has never fallen below $119,000.
Time will tell how the Yeezy behaves once supplies run thin on eBay, but for the moment, with 317 listings for the shoes currently active, sales continue apace.
Oh—and for those that would like to own a "piece of history"—one auction is also running for the printed receipt from an Air Yeezy II Red October purchase. Bidding for the rarefied sheet of paper currently stands at $15.50.
